why we tell the story.
Some say we are defined by our jobs—our roles in everyday life. Some say we are defined by our desires, our dreams, and our passions. Whatever you believe, at the heart of it all, our stories are what define us. Stories are a fundamental and essential part of our society and culture. Whether it be in spoken word, movies, books, music, news media, theatre—all are intrinsic to our lives. At the center of these stories are people. And, when you think of people who have touched your life, you immediately recall a memory, a moment—a story. As told through Lynn Ahren’s powerful lyric in Once On This Island JR.: “Our lives become the stories that we weave.”
As children’s theatre artists, we are charged with the great task of telling stories. We creatively and carefully craft the retelling of instances of places and people—stories that inspire, enrich, and empower the imaginations of children and their families. CCT’s 2016-2017 Performance Series tells stories of love, friendship, and family, and teaches respect, empathy, compassion, and acceptance. We welcome you to our theatre and invite you to learn why we tell the story.
