Summer 2026 | Seasonal Position
Reports to: Director of Education, Camp Manager
Position Overview
Columbus Children’s Theatre seeks a compassionate, skilled Adaptive Arts Specialist to support inclusive theatre education camps for students with diverse learning needs. This role is central to creating a welcoming, supportive environment where all campers can engage meaningfully in theatre arts, build confidence, and experience creative success.
Working closely with the Education Coordinator, teaching artists, and families, this position support individualized learning strategies, curriculum adaptation, and social-emotional development throughout the camp experience.
This is a seasonal position running during CCT’s summer camp session, with some preparation time required outside of camp hours.
Schedule & Duration
Camp weeks run June 1 - August 7, 2026
No camp the week of June 29 - July 3
Full-time availability preferred; part-time candidates will be considered
Some preparation may take place during evenings or weekends to review camper needs and plan supports
Key Responsibilities
Individualized Student Support
Collaborate with the Education Coordinator, families, and teaching artists to understand camper needs and develop individualized strategies that support participation in theatre activities.
Provide in-the-moment accommodation and instructional support to help students engage fully in camp programming
Curriculum Adaptation & Instruction
Adapt theatre-based curriculum to meet a wide range of learning styles, abilities, and sensory needs
Support instruction in acting, improvisation, storytelling, movement, and creative play with flexibility and responsiveness
Social-Emotional Learning & Inclusion
Foster a positive, inclusive camp culture where students feel safe, respected, and empowered to express themselves creatively
Support the development of social skills, collaboration, self-regulation, and confidence through theatre-based activities
Behavioral & Safety Support
Implement positive behavior supports and proactive strategies to address individual needs
Assist in maintaining a safe, supportive environment for all campers
Collaboration & Communication
Work collaboratively with teaching artists and camp staff to coordinator activities and share strategies
Maintain open, professional communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on camper progress and experiences
Participate in team meetings, planning conversations, and ongoing reflection
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field
Valid Education teaching license or certification
Experience working with children or adolescents with diverse learning needs
Strong understanding of inclusive practices and individualized support
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Patience, empathy, and a commitment to student-centered learning
CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain prior to camp)
Ability to pass a background check
Preferred:
Experience working in a camp or arts-education setting
Knowledge of theatre arts or experience in creative, arts-based instruction
Familiarity with social-emotional learning frameworks and positive behavior supports
Compensation
Commensurate with experience

Position Overview
Columbus Children’s Theatre seeks dynamic, skilled teaching artists to lead summer camp instruction in a specific arts discipline, including theatre, improv, movement, dance, music, technical theatre or visual arts. Teaching Artists serve as lead instructors, designing and facilitating engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences that inspire creativity, collaboration, and confidence in young people.
Teaching Artists play a central role in delivering high-quality arts education while fostering a safe, inclusive, and joyful camp environment. This position works closely with the Director of Education, Camp Manager, Camp Coordinators, Learning Support Staff (Adventure Guides), and fellow teaching artists to ensure cohesive and successful camp programming.
This role supports camps held at CCT’s Naghten campus as well as off-site satellite camp locations throughout Central Ohio.
This is a seasonal/contract position aligned with CCT’s summer camp schedule, with some preparation time required outside of camp hours.
Schedule & Duration
Camp weeks run June 2 - August 8, 2025
No camp the week of June 30 - July 4
Teaching Artists may work full-time or part-time, depending on assignment

Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum Leadership
Design and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction in an assigned arts discipline
Deliver lessons that encourage creativity, collaboration, and student voice
Adapt instruction in real time to meet the needs of diverse learners and age groups
Classroom & Camp Leadership
Serve as the lead instructor in assigned camp sessions
Utilize strong, confident classroom management strategies
Create a positive, inclusive, and well-structured learning environment
Support student transitions throughout the building and between activities
Collaboration & Teamwork
Collaborate with the Arts Education Coordinator on curriculum goals and program structure
Wrok cooperatively with Learning Support Staff (Adventure Guides) and assistants
Communicate effectively with Camp Coordinators and Camp Manager regarding daily operations and student needs
Student Support & Engagement
Foster a nurturing environment where students feel safe, respected, and empowered to express themselves creatively
Support students socially and emotionally through theatre-based activities and group work
Professionalism & Operations
Assist with attendance, daily check-in and pick-up procedures as needed
Maintain a clean, organized classroom or studio space, including resetting rooms and storing materials
Follow all CCT safety policies, supervision standards, and behavior expectations
Be familiar with and adhere to the Teaching Artist Handbook and Code of Ethics
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating arts instruction for children or teens
Expertise or training in one or more arts disciplines (theatre, improv, movement, dance, music, technical theatre or visual arts, etc.)
Strong classroom management and group facilitation skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and administration
Comfort working with multiple age groups
CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain prior to camp)
Ability to pass a background check
Preferred:
Experience working in camp, school, or arts-education settings
Experience working with diverse learners and inclusive classrooms

Compensation

Position Overview
Learning Support Staff, also known as Adventure Guides, support teaching artists and instructors in classrooms, studios, and hands-on learning environments during arts education programs and summer camps. Adventure Guides help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging experience for students by assisting with instruction, leading games and activities, supporting classroom management, and helping students transition throughout the day.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with young people, thrive in collaborative environments, and have a passion for the arts, education, and youth development.

Qualifications & Experience

Columbus Children’s Theatre
Year-Round | Project-Based Contract Position
Reports to: Director of EducationPosition Overview
Teaching Artist Ensemble Members are trained professional artists and educators who deliver high-quality theatre arts instruction and represent Columbus Children’s Theatre across educational, outreach, and promotional programming. Ensemble Members are contracted on a project-by-project basis and lead engaging, inclusive learning experiences in classrooms, studios, schools, libraries, and community settings, fostering creativity, confidence, and a love of storytelling in young people.
Teaching Artist Ensemble Members participate in required training provided by CCT and may teach classes and workshops, lead Storytime adventure readings, facilitate master classes, support school and classroom visits, and represent CCT at community and promotional events. This role is ideal for artist-educators who are passionate about arts education, value inclusive teaching practices, and thrive in collaborative, mission-driven environments.
Schedule & Duration
This is a year-round, project-based contract position, with assignments offered throughout the calendar year
Teaching Artist Ensemble Members may accept individual projects or multiple assignments, depending on availability and program needs
Assignments may include programs at CCT Naghten, satellite locations, schools, libraries, and community venues
Schedules vary by project and may include weekday daytime, occasional evenings, and weekend commitments
Required training sessions take place throughout the year and are a condition of eligibility for project assignments
Key Responsibilities
Lead engaging, developmentally appropriate theatre arts instruction in areas such as acting, movement, storytelling, stagecraft, or design
Plan and implement lessons aligned with CCT curriculum, program goals, and applicable state or national standards
Participate in and successfully complete required CCT training and professional development
Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for students of varied ages, abilities, and learning styles
Utilize strong, confident classroom management strategies that support positive behavior and student engagement
Differentiate instruction to support inclusive classrooms, including students with disabilities and diverse learning needs
Collaborate with fellow Teaching Artist Ensemble Members, learning support staff, and program leadership
Communicate clearly and professionally with students, parents/caregivers, educators, and colleagues
Provide individualized guidance and feedback to support student growth and confidence
Representing Columbus Children’s Theatre at promotional events, community engagements, and outreach activities
Maintain organized, clean, and inviting instructional and performance spaces
Support program operations as needed, including attendance tracking, transitions, and schedule adherence
Qualifications & Experience
Demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating theatre or arts-based instruction for children and/or teens
Experience working in inclusive classrooms or with students with diverse learning needs preferred
Progress toward or completion of a Bachelor’s degree or certification in theatre, fine arts, education, or a related field preferred
Comfort working with multiple age groups and in a variety of instructional settings
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Creative, flexible, and collaborative mindset
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt in dynamic environments
Passion for arts education and youth development

CCT Internships collaborate with the professional staff in the day-to-day operation of a creative and unique non-profit arts organization. By joining the CCT family you will gain first-hand experience in your chosen field, observe the fast-paced world of arts administration in action, and develop skills for a career in the theatre industry.
